Am I Damaging My Hair?

Posted by admin

I’m a male, and i have medium lenthg hair. I shower almost daily and shampoo my hair twice, and then comb it strait when i get out, and very lightly towel dry my hair. Then i put john freda frizzease serum in my hair, then i put a beanie on and let it dry. After It’s done drying I straiten my hair, but on the lowest setting possible, and then i put styling wax in my hair. I’ve noticed my hair getting thinner on the top, but no one else has, and im only 18, and I’m really hairy, and baldness doesn’t run in my faimly. so im not sure if it’s all just in my head or if im actually damaging my hair?

Not only are you stripping natural oils from your hair by shampooing twice, you are frying it with heat and products. And if you’re combing your hair with a fine tooth comb (especially when wet) you are tearing and stretching your strands. Once or twice a week wash your hair with an anti-residue shampoo (Neutrogena has a good one) to get all the gunk from the products out, and let your hair air dry completely without the beanie. Give your hair a break! Try choosing a style that accommodates your hair’s natural texture. You’ll spend less time styling, spend less money, your hair will be healthier, and you won’t look fake or like you’re trying too hard.

If your hair is normal to dry, you should be washing it every other day, rather than daily. You especially shouldn’t shampoo it twice in one day.
Even on the lowest setting, you should put something on your hair to protect it. There are a number of products for this that you can find in salons or in any store.

  3. Never Stop Looking says:

Things you shouldn’t do that DO damage your hair:
    a) shampooing twice a day.
it dries your hair out, which causes it to fall out
    b) combing your hair when your hair is wet.
typical, but not so much. wait for it to dry. i know it sucks but it breaks your hair to do that.
    c) towel drying! a big no-no!
just hold the towel to your head and apply pressure. towel drying breaks hair too!

the best thing foor your hair is to wash it on;y once or twice a wek (srsly) because it lets the natural oils soak into your hair making it softer. it may take a few days to regulate but it’s worth it, trust me. try blow drying sunsilk anti-frizz into your hair on the lowest setting, it works alot better and never frizzes out. the thinning really probably IS in your head lol =]
well, i don’t know your hair inside and out, but this should help
    best of luck =]

dont shower daily once a day is okay
salonist say to shower every other day cause something about the water does something to your hair and they also say to shower w/ COLD water you put a LOT a products in your hair

  6. wash your hair every other day let the natural oils replenish your hair. washing your hair every day is bad for your hair!!!

  7. Sky says:

Wash it everyday with shampoo .But only twice a week with conditioner.

  8. Jess says:

it could be the fabric of the beanie. I know people who are thinning on top men and women because their headgear is made of wool.

  9. londa102 says:

Yes putting any type of heat on your hair everyday is bad. You might not see it know but give it some time and you will.

ok…its not, not good to wash ur hair every day, unless its really greasy like mine. and don’t shampoo it twice. on weekends when ur not going anywhere don’t do anything to it. i think that frizzease is fine to put in ur hair. its a good thing that u lightly towel dry it…i do too and i don’t think that it would really hurt. but, next time u get haircut..((if u go to the hair salon or barber shop..whatever they call it now for men! lol)) ask them about ur hair. and if ur 18 then maybe some late hormones. idk…but make sure that ur eating good and has good exercise because it could be health issues…and it might not..i just think the best way to know is just to ask ur hairstylist. hope u figure it out! ;D

one of the things that happened to my brother a while ago was that he was losing hair because product and dandruff was blocking the hair pores, so the hair got weak and brittle and then broke off piece by piece. he started using Head & Shoulders intensive treatment, and hasn’t had a problem with it since. this sounds like it could be your case.
if not, maybe you are damaging your hair. use a shampoo and conditioner that repairs hair if my first idea doesn’t help.
if neither of these works, go to a hair salon or something and ask what could be done.
my best guess is the first idea, though. if you want to not go bald, it’s really important that you get that type of shampoo. it works wonders after even a week.
