Cat Is Bald Around His Neck & Down His Back & Has A Moist Pyoderma – What Could Be The Cause Of The Baldness?

Posted by

I have a one year old birman cat, male, desexed. We live in country Australia & used to only let him out during the day. In the past year he’s had tick paralysis & been bitten by a brown snake. He’s lived to tell the tale & is now an indoor only cat!!! About three weeks after the brown snake bite he went bald in 24hrs around his neck & down the centre of his back. The bald spot started getting red & looking nasty so I took him to the vet & he said he has a moist pyoderma, apparently from the dogs licking his bald spot & has treated him with antibiotics orally & topically. It’s slowwwwwwwwwly getting better but he’s continuing to lose hair & they can’t tell me why he went bald in the first place? I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or perhaps has any thoughts on why he’d suddenly lose his hair around his neck/back?
