Hair Question, Possibly Relating To Telogen Effluvium?
Posted by adminOver the past one and a half months or so i’ve suffered a serious amount of hair fall and now there is a very noticable amount of thinning after it has been washed. it’s not so noticable in the day to other people but it seriously affects me. it has lost a significant amount of volume and it doesn’t feel like it used to barely a month and a half ago. A while back i did change my diet an awful lot for quite a while until i was eventually only 55 kilos. I’m 17 years old. I’m extremely worried and this experience is only adding to the stresses of my final year exams right now and has me feeling extremely self conscious and often depressed. Is there any chance at all that my hair will return to normal? it doesn’t seem to show the typical signs of hereditary balding (male pattern baldness). my hair was wonderfully thick not two months ago and now all of a sudden this happens. anyone who can give me advice or help me at all, your contributions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like you are caught in a vicious cycle… stress can lead to hair fall, which stresses you out… repeat. You mentioned your change in diet… I don’t know how tall you or or what build you are but it sounds like 55 kilos was very low for you? Drastically restricting your diet often leads to a deficiency of iron, protein, and B vitamins that help hold and strengthen your hair. If your diet is back to normal, you may just have to wait for the hair to grow back… it probably will, it’s not like “male pattern baldness”…
Try taking an iron supplement and biotin supplements (both of which you should be able to get in a good multivitamin) and be sure you’re getting enough protein in your diet. Worry about exams, but after that RELAX. It should grow back, though depending on the length, it could take a year or more to get it completely back to normal. If this doesn’t work, you may want to see a doctor and get checked for thyroid conditions, side effects from any meds you might be on, etc. Lots of illnesses have hair loss as a symptom, so best to get it checked after you rule out stress.
Good luck with exams, and don’t fret. Your hair will thank you for it! In the meantime, get a really cute hat, some headbands, and learn some cute updos for days when you are really feeling self-conscious this summer.
Or, if you are a boy… hats are ALWAYS an option, as well as the “sunglasses on the head” look.
It could be the stress causing this. It could also be the diet change.
Honestly, i don’t know, but you should go check with you doctor.
Wow!
You are much too young to be going through this.
Have you gone to the doctor?
If not my guess would be your change in diet or you are stressing yourself out or it could be something else.
Try washing your hair in cold/cool water and use not so harsh shampoos and conditioner gently towel dry and let your hair dry naturally. If you are into that straighten your hair thing you might need to stop for awhile and try what I just mentioned above. Start eating healthy (fruits, veggies, water and exercise) for starters and alittle of what you like to eat for the hunger. Massage your scale softly while watching TV, then it will get oily sometimes then you wash your hair (do this once in awhile) when you know you will be washing your hair.
I wish I could help in some way but that is all I can come up with. Good Luck!!!
Try not to focus on people staring at your hair, they are probably thinking of how pretty you are believe me you will know if they are thinking or staring at your hair.
Just be you and be happy that you are a healthy person.
Take care of yourself the best that you can and everything will turn out alright, talk to God also he is listening he answers at his timing not ours.
