Male Hair Loss – Is Hair Loss And Male Pattern Baldness Hereditary?

Posted by admin

Male pattern baldness is hereditary. This means that you carry the gene but it doesn’t mean that you will go bald. You need to remember that there is a difference between losing hair and carrying the baldness gene.
Some forms of hair loss are reversible if they are caused by stress, poor diet, scalp conditions or environmental factors. Hair revitalization is one of the most effective therapies here.

It is most definitely hereditary. However, if you’re looking at your dad/uncle/brother and thinking that you’re doomed…you might not be. My husband has 3 brothers, and all of them still have thick full heads of hair, where as he started loosing his in his mid 20′s; just like his dad.
The hair loss can tied to the testosterone in the man’s (or woman’s) system. There are other environmental factors that can be related as well. If you are experiencing hair loss there are products on the market (Rogaine) to slow the loss down. Just don’t get hair plugs, or hair transplants…I have yet to see that look good, other than in the commercials!

Yes, I understand it comes from the mothers side of the family. Testosterone can accelerate the hair loss process, that’s why some young men thin out very quickly then slow down or stop as the get a bit older (testosterone levels dropping off with age). Other men go boald at a slow and steady rate though.
